An Allen's Hummingbird nest from Oceanside California Second Clutch Spring 2023

This session introduces you to Olive, a beautiful Allen female and her 2nd clutch of 2023. She has re-used this nest 5 times. Olive uses a window feeder close by and other hummingbirds frequent 2 other feeders on the property. She is an extremely experienced mother and will teach her chicks all they need to know, including survival skills.

Key highlights & events:
March 11th - First egg laid.

March 28th - First chick hatched during the night. First sighting at 6:25AM
March 29th - Second chick hatched during the night. First sighting at 6:434AM

April 1st - The chicks are names Lily and River.

April 22nd - Both chicks fledge the nest at 9:48AM.

Beautiful Olive on her nest of two February 2023

What started out with a small Ficus tree in the corner of out patio has evolved over the years getting more protected each year from wind and crows. Along with improvements to the camera, lighting and sound.
